As we know COVID-19 has changed the way we interact and socialize with others. Most of our high function adults with CdLS were struggling with managing changes to their daily routine such as not being able to; attend day programs, return back to work or go out into the community, it caused an increased feeling of anxiety, depression, loss of independence and isolation.

They shared they felt disconnected from friends and family. When Conference turned virtual many felt a sense of loss as they enjoyed seeing other adults with CdLS in their special group at conference. As a result, the CdLS Foundation wanted to create a place where high functioning adults could come together for an hour a month and be able to see and interact with one another.

This interactive virtual platform is a safe space where all information that is discussed during the call is kept confidential. Members have the opportunity to share opinions, experiences, offer support and brainstorm solutions to problems. In depth open and honest conversations about topics that are important to them are held once a month for one hour.

Some topics that have been discussed during our calls over the past year have been:

  • COVID-19 and how they are affected, adjusting, etc.
  • Social skills
  • Communication skills
  • Friendships
  • Relationships
  • How to communicate with teacher/boss/co-worker
