We would like to extend our congratulations to our community member Jesse and his soon-to-be wife Jennifer! They are set to be married later this month.
How Jesse and Jennifer Found Each Other
In the Fall of 2005, Jesse Raymond Bassett and Jennifer Alicia Bakke both attended Transition Plus, a post-secondary school designed for differently abled students after high school. Jesse, though shy, was captivated by Jennifer. Jennifer, outgoing and friendly, liked Jesse as well. Taking the initiative, Jennifer began sitting next to Jesse at lunch each day, and as time went on, their friendship grew. However, when school ended, they lost touch with each other.
Fate Brings Them Together Again
Fast forward to the Fall of 2008. Jesse was participating in a job program called Lifeworks. Coincidentally, Jennifer joined the program during a tour and started working there too. Jesse asked Jennifer out, and by 2010, the couple was engaged. Despite their engagement, they realized they weren’t quite ready for that level of commitment yet.
A Journey Through Challenges
Over the next several years, Jesse and Jennifer’s relationship ebbed and flowed. Jennifer even married and divorced someone else during this period. By 2024, their relationship became serious again. After dating for about a year—their longest time together—they began living at each other’s apartments, and marriage soon became a topic of discussion.
A New Chapter Begins
On Valentine’s Day 2025, Jesse proposed to Jennifer, marking a new beginning for their relationship. In May, their social worker helped them find an apartment in Mendota for couples. Jesse and Jennifer moved in together with their four beloved pets and started their domestic life. Their journey is remarkable—not many couples overcome a broken engagement, a marriage and divorce, and still emerge stronger together. Staying in touch allowed Jesse and Jennifer to grow in their love and respect for each other and for marriage itself. As their excitement builds, they look forward to uniting their lives on May 23, 2026.
