On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Michelle Gentry, and her family hosted the final rodeo in a five-event “Bulls and Barrels” series to raise funds and awareness for the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) Foundation. CdLS is a rare genetic spectrum disorder that causes a broad range of potential physical, cognitive, and medical challenges.

The rodeo series raised over $7,000 for the CdLS Foundation from the first event in July 2024, to the last in January 2025.

The events were in honor of Gentry’s grandson Gunner Carter who has CdLS. Gentry’s sons, Cayden and Cole Carter, and Gunner’s grandfather, Eugene Carter III, all participated in the series. The Carter family has been in the rodeo business for decades. The events gave the community the opportunity to participate in rodeo fun, while raising awareness and funds.

“Our community showed up with open hearts,” Gentry said of the experience. “We live in a small rural area and Gunner has his very own fan crew. They have watched him grow and develop through me showing him off and boasting about him through Facebook. Taking these events on has given me so much pleasure and I am forever grateful for the relationships I have made with the CdLS foundation and the families I have met through this process.”

The rodeo series was featured on a local news station ahead of the last event. At the final event, artwork was auctioned off, and buckles were awarded.

Gentry said she is hoping more events will be in the cards for 2026.
