By Amanda’s family
Amanda was born on December 11, 1982, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She is the ninth of twelve children, with four older sisters and seven brothers (four older and three younger). She has over 50 nieces and nephews and knows them by name and who they belong to.
She is a proud graduate of Kahuku High School (RR4L), and grew up on the North Shore of Oahu in Hauula. Amanda loves to swim, surf, go running, draw pictures, dance, do puzzles and spend time with animals and her stuffed toys. Her favorite music is hula.
She now lives full time with her big brother Angus and his wife Leilani, where she often travels with them for work and loves being part of the work team.
She recently completed the Baltimore 5K with a completion time of 1:10 with Team CdLS, and looks forward to being more involved in the CdLS community.
What advice do have for other parents?
Encourage hard things. While it may take some time for tolerance and acceptance, the rewards are magnificent. Traveling with Amanda took about a year to ease into long car rides or long plane rides. She now is a seasoned traveler with realistic expectations.
We make a few adjustments for her, but if we had stopped because the first trip was hard she would have never been able to visit Pompeii and Rome on a work trip to Italy.
