The family of a child with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) held a dinner event in early September to raise awareness and funds for the CdLS Foundation.
High schooler Jia Gupta organized the event to honor her cousin, Kavin.
“Over the last few years, I have learned a lot about his condition and found it surprising how little-known it is. I spoke with a professor at Brown University who had never heard of CdLS, which made me eager to raise awareness,” Gupta said. “Additionally, during an internship with a neurologist, I learned that she had only encountered one patient with CdLS during her residency more than five years ago. This lack of awareness motivated me to educate and inspire my community.”
During the event, which included dinner, raffles and entertainment, other families affected by the disease shared their personal stories. Guta said the experience was moving.
“The event created a beautiful opportunity for connection and fostered a deeper understanding of the challenges this syndrome brings. For my family and me, this experience is profoundly meaningful, as our support networks have expanded, enriching the love and respect we share with one another,” she said.
All proceeds, totaling $13,560, benefited the CdLS Foundation.
