Mike F. raised nearly $50,000 for the CdLS Foundation earlier this month during his annual backyard obstacle course. The event was Mike’s 15th year of fundraising in honor of his son Connor, who was born with the genetic disorder Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, or CdLS.
Connor is now 16 years old and faces physical and cognitive development issues. He is a quiet and funny kid who recently finished his first year of high school. He enjoys Pokémon Go, puzzles and the matching game, and playing baseball in a special needs league. While the family continues to have challenges, the support from friends, family, and the CdLS Foundation is instrumental in helping Connor continue to develop.
“Having a child with special needs is hard. It requires a different level of patience. It creates a different level of anxiety. It runs your emotions to extremes. It can be lonely,” Mike said.
Since Connor was one year old, Mike has participated in various “runs,” including the Broadstreet Run, Merrill Down & Dirty mud run, and the Philadelphia MuckFest mud run to raise money for the CdLS Foundation. From the ashes of the pandemic, a new idea was born. Connor’s family created a backyard obstacle course that Connor and other family members could participate in.
“Thank you to all who have donated; your generosity will go a long way for CdLS families. Including the offline donations, we raised close to $50,000 for the Foundation this year!” Mike said.
