Hearing that I was going to be a dad had to be the best news of my life. When I found out Carson had a disability, I actually took a breath of relief. Growing up, I always had a gut feeling that I’d have a kid with special needs. I don’t know why, but when the news came out, I felt like God had a plan for me, and it had finally come to life.
We didn’t know what the disability was until we got to the NICU. When they told us it was CdLS and all the stones were set in place, my faith grew, the love of the family I just created grew, and my work ethic grew.
Carson is truly an inspiration to me and has made me the best father I can be.
He has his own personality; He’s a jokester, he’s always happy, and when he’s hungry, you’ll know about it. Coming home every morning and hearing him through the door laughing with his stuffed gator puts the biggest smile on my face after a long night at work. After a year of watching him grow up we decided he needed a sibling to help him grow and develop into who he is becoming day by day.
Two years later his little brother Coy came into the picture and they are the best of friends. They wrestle, they laugh, and both of their favorite things to do is swim in the pool. I’ve been blessed by God with the family he gave me. I love my wife Bailey, and both of my boys Carson and Coy with all I have in me. And I really just thank God for everything he has given to me in my life. I thank Karrington for running in the Chicago marathon in honor of Carson & spreading more awareness about Carson’s syndrome.
Knowing that others love him as much as we do is such a blessing.
