Prostatic Utricle

Question: My son was diagnosed with a prostatic utricle. I would like to know if it is common in people with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. I would also like to know if the best treatment is surgery. I would also like to know if a neurogenic bladder is a recurring feature of the syndrome.

Answer: A prostatic utricle can be a normal, incidental finding. Depending on the size and whether he has symptoms such as difficulty urinating, pain, etc. Patients with CdLS can also have a neurogenic bladder and bowel, where they have difficulty controlling both urine and stool. I would recommend finding an experienced urologist or pediatric urologist to monitor and examine him. Their primary care doctor should have good recommendations.
