My child tested positive for Covid-19, what are some recommendations for their care?

Answer:

I would recommend the following:

  1. Please make sure the individual is well hydrated. Bouts of diarrhea with minimal intake can quickly lead to dehydration. Would try and provide them with additional fluids: pedialyte or other electrolyte solution if available, otherwise increased water.
  2. Monitor their temperature – if it goes up, again they risk dehydration and might need more increased fluids. Treat individual with Tylenol if so
  3. Monitor their respiratory status. Continue with Nebulizer treatments and monitor oxygen saturations. If they decrease, or if the individual develops respiratory distress, they may need to be brought to the hospital. Have a plan identified (ahead of time and hopefully not needed) about where and how to bring the individual to the hospital. Also discuss with primary care physician who may be able to recommend where to go.
  4. Maximize their comfort.
