Blood Replenishment
Are individuals with CdLS slow to replenish blood after blood loss or draw?
There is no direct predisposition that I am aware of for kids with CdLS to not produce new blood cells after loss (hematopoesis). Small children and kids with low weights are more prone to complications from loss of blood if significant and would therefore benefit from a pre-emptive infusion especially if they are borderline anemic (lacking in iron) to begin with or if considerable blood loss is anticipated from a procedure. Some children with CdLS can have low platelets and increased bleeding related to that. A hematologic evaluation may be indicated.
