Awareness Day GuideHelp us celebrate National CdLS Awareness Day on Saturday, May 10. Below are some ideas to help get the creative juices flowing. Choose one, mix and match or come up with your own idea—but whatever you do, have fun while you educate and celebrate on this special day.1. Post CdLS awareness fliers on bulletin boards at such places as the grocery store, church, library, community center, and local government offices. (Don’t forget to get permission first.) 2. If you live in the New York-metro area, stand in the audience of a live national morning news broadcast, like the Today Show. Be sure to make a CdLS Awareness Day poster or banner to hold up. Bring along your child with CdLS if he/she is able. 3. Create a CdLS display to set up at your place of work, a doctor’s office or pharmacy. 4. Throw a CdLS party. Ask guests to wear purple—the Foundation’s color. 5. Give a presentation about CdLS to a local civic group, medical association or school. The Foundation can provide handouts, talking points and a PowerPoint presentation. 6. Write a Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper about why awareness of CdLS is important. The Foundation has a sample letter you can customize. 7. Contact a local newspaper or television reporter and see if he/she would be interested in doing a story about the syndrome. Refer him/her to the Online Press Kit for background information. 8. Ask your local radio station if you can submit a public service announcement (PSA) about Awareness Day. The Foundation has PSA scripts available. 9. Request that your mayor or town supervisor proclaim May 10 as CdLS Awareness Day in your city/town. Contact us for a sample proclamation and request template. (The request should be submitted as soon as possible.) For templates and materials, contact Marie Malloy at outreach@CdLSusa.org, or call 800-753-2357. Please be sure to let us know about your Awareness Day activities, and don't forget to take photos.
